Artist Description of Cow

Cowpernicus pays homage to the genius of Renaissance astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus reflected in his work “On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres.” The cow represents the Copernican Universe—the heliocentric model Copernicus developed based on mathematical theory.

I used Copernicus’s depiction of circular motion of the planets around the sun for the center of the cow and his idea of a field of fixed stars attached to an immovable sphere for the rest. I strove to combine science and art as a reminder of the blinding beauty that surrounds us all.

I loved this cow. There was a lot of of effort put into this design and lots of color!

  2. Pat terKuile says:

This cow is fabulous. The density of the colors and the way they are arranged makes obvious how much thought and work this artist put into the piece.
