Artist Description of Cow

A big doodle for Grace. Creativity is play when we are children. Somehow, somewhere, we lose the ability to play, and with it, the access to our creativity.

Many of us freely give up both for fear of how we might be perceived by the world at large. Others extinguish it when they are introduced to the “adult skills” of judgement, suppression and intolerance. Still others fear it for the “impulsive” or “uncontrolled” labels that they have learned to associate with the “creative person.”

Creativity, and its embodiment in play, is none of these. It should be judged only for the fruit that it bears: the delight of the unexpected.

This might be the most fantastic cow we have experienced. This is really a great piece of art!

Oh, and this cow is NO WHERE NEAR where it is shown on the map. Is it in front of the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium along with Lexus Cow (not listed on the map). The app has it in the correct place.

Thanks for the alert, Julie! We’ll follow up with the overall coordinator of CowParade NC and make sure the map is updated as appropriate. (Are you using the most recent version of the map, uploaded to the CowParade NC website on 09/18/2012 and available for download on the homepage?)

    • cowftp says:

Yes, we checked, Julie, and it appears the current map has Grace’s Cow out in front of the auditorium as you’ve noted here. Please download the latest version via our homepage at

THIS has got to be the most cowphantasmic one in the NC herd! The wings in addition to the other artistic adornments make this member of the herd THE SHOWSTOPPER! I also agree with the artist that in general creativity is in a downward spiral in our ever more techno-oriented world. However, I believe the mechanism for that loss begins MUCH earlier as all children are gradually forced to fit in a ’round hole’ and that they (and we) lose the wonder that the ‘square’ and other shaped child-pegs might have brought to the party that is humanity. It’s a terrible price to pay for efficiency and lower taxes.
